Parisian-born Korean violist DongYeob Kang recently completed his Artist Diploma at the Colburn Conservatory of Music in Los Angeles, where he studied with Paul Coletti. He is continuing his doctoral studies at the University of Texas at Austin with Roger Myers from fall 2020, where he was honored as the recipient of both Recruitment Fellowship and Teaching Assistantship.

Mr. Kang has made solo and recital appearances in major venues, such as Lincoln Center, Merkin Concert Hall, Herbert Zipper Hall, Boston Court, Thayer Hall, Smith Recital Hall, Oriental Art Center in Shanghai, and in 2018 made his solo debut in the Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall in New York.

Mr. Kang has won top prizes in numerous competitions, including the 1st prize at the New York International Music Competition, the 2nd prize at the BIMA International String Competition in San Diego, the 1st prize at the Korea Young Artist Music Competition, the 1st prize at the Korean Chamber Orchestra Competition, and in 2021 he was selected as the ‘Rising Star of the Year’ by The Journal of Music in Korea.

He also has invited and performed in prestigious music festivals throughout the world, including the Lionel Tertis International Viola Competition & Festival in England, Bravo! International Music Festival in San Diego, Singapore Violin/Viola Festival, the Viva Viola Festival in Taiwan and others. Mr. Kang has selected as the Young Artist Fellow by the Manchester Music Festival in Vermont in 2020, and the Fellowship Artist at the Bowdoin International Music Festival in 2021.

As a devoted chamber and orchestra musician, Mr. Kang has collaborated extensively with internationally renowned conductors such as Esa-Pekka Salonen, Valery Gergiev, James Conlon, Peter Oundjian, Xian Zhang, Thomas Wilkins, Gilbert Varga, Mark Russell Smith, Scott Sandmeier, David Dzubay, and performers such as Martin Beaver, Clive Greensmith, Scott St. John, Kyungsun Lee, Peter Lloyd, Vivian Fan, Delirium Musicum, and the Calidore Quartet.

He received further artistic inspirations through the masterclasses and lessons by Arnold Steinhardt, Nobuko Imai, Roberto Diaz, Steven Tenenbom, Hsin-Yun Huang, Meidad Yehudayan, Guy Ben-Ziony, Stephen Wyrczynski, Xidi Shen, Zhang Manchin, Wang Shaowu and Ryo Terakado.

Previously, Mr. Kang is a graduate of the Indiana University as a student of Atar Arad, and holds a Bachelor's degree from Yonsei University in Seoul, where he studied with SangJin Kim.
