Gustavo Rebelo (23)

Gustavo Rebelo, born on the 21 st of Nov. 2001, started his studies at 8 years of age at the Calouste Gulbenkian Conservatory of Music, in Aveiro.

He currently attends Prof. William Coleman’s class at the Universität Mozarteum Salzburg (Austria). His studies are also frequently mentored by Prof. Ana Bela Chaves.

He is, since 2022 a scholarship holder for the ‘Yehudi Menuhin Live Music Now’ fund in Salzburg.

Gustavo has participated in several national and international music competitions, having received honors such as the 1st prize in the “Golden Classical Music Awards” (USA), along with an invitation to play at the Weill Recital Hall, the 1st prize in the 9th National Paços’ Premium Competition (Portugal), the 2nd prize in the 8th Vigo International Strings Competition (Spain), the 2nd Prize in the Viola category of the ‘Verão Clássico’ Festival Academy Awards, among others.

Throughout his academic career he has participated in several masterclasses and courses, ran by teachers and musicians such as Miguel da Silva, Francien Schatborn, Tatjana Masurenko, Maté Szucs, Leo De Neve, Gérard Caussé, Hariolf Schlichtig, Kim Kashkashian, Thomas Riebl, Willliam Coleman, Lars Anders Tomter, Nobuko Imai, Hartmut Rohde, Wilfried Strehle and Ana Bela Chaves.

In the chamber music field, his studies have received significant impulses from pedagogues and musicians such as Ana Bela Chaves, William Coleman, Lars Anders Tomter, Cibrán Sierra Vázquez, Oliver Wille and Rainer Schmidt. Participation in chamber music ensembles was also a central part of his artistic development, taking part in concerts of the Agon Ensemble (Italy) and the Juventus Ensemble (Portugal) as well as the BEYRA Chamber Artistic Lab (Portugal), to name a few.

Throughout his studies he has collaborated with several youth orchestras, such as JOP (Portuguese Youth Orchestra- Jovem Orquestra Portuguesa), from 2017- 2020 and the Mediterranean Youth Orchestra (MYO), in the 2020 edition, the 2021 edition of the European Union Youth Orchestra (EUYO), and the Angelika Prokopp Sommerakademie of the Vienna Philharmonic, as well as collaboration with orchestras such as the München Bach-Orchester, the München Chamber Orchestra (MKO), the Bayerisches Kammerorchester Bad Brückenau, The Kammerphilarmonie Landshut as well as the Philarmonie Salzburg.

Most recently he has been chosen to participate as an academist and scholarship holder for the Saline Royale Music Academy, with Prof. Lars Anders Tomter, the Marvão International Music Academy, with Prof. Hariolf Schlichtig, the Verão Clássico International Music Festival & Academy, with Profs. Miguel da Silva and Lars Anders Tomter, the International Mendelssohn Festival Hamburg with Prof. Hartmut Rohde the Lichtenstein International Music Academy, with Prof. Thomas Riebl, the International Musicians Seminar Prussia Cove (IMS), under the tutelage of Prof. Thomas Riebl and David Waterman . Most recently, Gustavo has also been selected to take part in the 2025 Yellow Barn Music Festival, in Putney, Vermont (USA), under tutelage of Prof. Pauline Sachse, Prof. Krzysztof Chorzelski and Prof. Kim Kashkashian.
