Jason Sheng-Chieh Lan (27)

Jason Sheng-Chieh Lan has rapidly established himself as a versatile and dynamic violist through his extensive performance experience and artistic depth. He holds the distinction of being the youngest violist in history to present a debut recital at Taiwan’s National Concert Hall, performing to a sold-out audience. Since then, he has appeared as a soloist with the Idyllwild Arts Academy Orchestra and the Austin Civic Orchestra.

A Juilliard alumnus, Jason is currently a doctoral candidate and teaching assistant at the University of Texas at Austin, where he studies with Wilhelm Magner and Roger Myers. He began playing the viola at the age of nine and is a national competition prizewinner in Taiwan. He has earned top scholarships from Idyllwild Arts Academy, as well as full scholarships and fellowships from the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory, the Tianjin Juilliard School, and the University of Texas at Austin.

Chamber music is a central passion in Jason’s career. He was part of the inaugural class of the International Chamber Music Festival at the Tianjin Juilliard School and has participated in the Music Academy of the West and the String Quartet Seminar. He has had the privilege of working and performing with distinguished artists and ensembles including Donald McInnes, Richard O’Neill, Nobuko Imai, Honggang Li, Roger Myers, Wilhelm Magner, the Takács Quartet, the Miró Quartet, the Shanghai Quartet, the Juilliard String Quartet, and faculty from the Tianjin Juilliard School.
