Jimin Jang (24)

Jimin Jang is a South Korean violist known for her warm sound, solid technique, and deep musical passion.
She has been recognized as a semifinalist at the Max Rostal Competition and was awarded the Pirastro Prize for an Outstanding Young Talent at the Oskar Nedbal Viola Competition. Jimin was also selected as a Karajan Akademie, as well as a Musethica Artist, Kumho Prodigy and Kumho Young Artist. She has performed extensively across Europe, USA and Asia, appearing in cities such as Berlin, London, Amsterdam, Prague, Linz, Vienna, Hong Kong and Seoul.
Jimin is active as a soloist and chamber musician, while also performing as a guest member and guest co-principal with renowned orchestras, including Berliner Philharmoniker, Mahler Chamber Orchestra, Le Concert Olympique and Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra. She was also principal violist of the Seiji Ozawa Opera Project.
She has participated in prestigious festivals and masterclasses, working with distinguished musicians such as Tabea Zimmermann, Amihai Gros, Nils Mönkemeyer, Kolja Blacher, and Timothy Ridout. Her festival appearances include the Prussica Cove Chamber Music Academy, Villars Music Academy, Hohenstaufen Festival, Four Seasons Chamber Music Festival and Seiji Ozawa Music Academy.
As a recipient of scholarships from the Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben, Ottilie-Selbach-Redslob-Stiftung, and Hyundai Chung Mong-Koo Foundation, She is continuing her studies at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler Berlin with Florian Peelman, following her education at the Korea National University of Arts under Soon Wha Oh, Hanna Lee and Joseph Lim.
As a laureate of the Deutschen Musikinstrumentenfonds, Jimin performs on a Paolo Antonio Testore viola (Milan, 1740), generously loaned by the Cultural Circle of German Business within the BDI e.V..
