Martta Kunnola (19)

Martta Kunnola (born 2005) is a Finnish viola student at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler Berlin, studying in Nils Mönkemeyer’s class. Previously, she studied at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München, also with Mönkemeyer, and at the Sibelius Academy’s Youth Department under Annariina Jokela, Lilli Maijala, and Teemu Kupiainen.
Martta has received valuable masterclass guidance from, among others, Pauline Sachse, Silvia Simionescu, Alexander Gordon, and Kirsikka de Leval Jezierski. She is also a student at the Finnish String Academy, where she receives additional training from Anna Kreetta Gribajcevic and Lilli Maijala.
Martta has performed chamber music in various ensembles, including at festivals in Finland. In spring 2025, she participated in Musethica with her classmates and teacher in Berlin.
Her symphony orchestra experience includes the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Tampere Philharmonic, and numerous student and youth orchestras. In 2023, she was the principal violist of the Concertgebouw Young and performed as a young soloist with the Sibelius High School Symphony Orchestra.
She won 1st Prize in the viola category at the 2023 Stockholm International Music Competition and received the Young Talent Award at the Oulu Viola Competition Final in 2022. Martta plays a viola made by Falk Peters.
