Philipp Sussmann (23)
Philipp studies with Prof. Volker Jacobsen at Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien Hannover.
Born in 1998, he started to play the violin at the age of three. Nine years later he changed to the viola and became a Precollege student at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München.
He was principal violist of the Bundesjugendorchester (National Youth Orchestra of Germany) under the baton of Sir Simon Rattle. Tours with this and other ensembles brought him to countries on four continents where he accompanied renowned soloists such as Christian Tetzlaff, Martha Argerich and Julia Fischer. Since 2018 he has an internship place in the NDR Radiophilharmonie and is member of the EUYO.
Philipp won several first and special prizes at international viola competitions, such as Szymon Goldberg Competition and MingClassics Competition and gets supported by foundations like "Oscar und Vera Ritter-Stiftung" and "scholarship of the region Hannover". As a soloist he played many concerts with different orchestras like Berliner Camerata and Münchner Kammerphilharmonie DaCapo.
In summer 2021 he got invited to play as principal violist in the Moritzburg Festival Orchestra and to attend the Zermatt Festival Academy. In addition he will be a scholarship holder of „Villa Musica Rheinland-Pfalz“ from September 2022.
Since spring 2021 he studies with Prof. Veronika Hagen at Mozarteum Salzburg for an ERASMUS exchange.
