Sonja Stibi is Professor of Music Mediation/Musikvermittlung at the University of Music and Theatre Munich, supports the development of the new Master's degree program “Music Mediation/Musikvermittlung” and contributes to the establishment of music mediation as a cross-sectional discipline at the HMTM.
Her teaching activities include moderation techniques, concert design, new concert formats for specific dialog groups, participatory music projects as well as inter-university seminars on the topic of “People.Music.Encounters”.
Sonja Stibi studied music and movement education as well as music education at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg. She received her doctorate (Dr. phil.) from the University of Augsburg in 2018. This was followed by a part-time Master of Arts “Music Education in Context” at the Anton Bruckner Private University Linz.
Sonja Stibi has held teaching positions at colleges and universities in Linz, Augsburg and Munich as well as in international teacher training. From 2011-2017, she was Professor of Elementary Music and Dance Pedagogy at the Orff Institute at the Mozarteum University Salzburg. She conceived and realized many different music and dance projects with children and young people in Austria and abroad.
She was appointed to the HMTM for the winter semester 2021. Her research focuses on outreach and community engagement, digital formats in music education as well as empirical teaching research, teaching behavior in artistic teaching and interculturality in music and dance education.
