Yanan Wang (25)

The Chinese-born violist Yanan Wang received her first musical training from 2013 to 2018 at the High School of the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing with Hai Cao.
Her artistic journey took her to Europe in 2018. Yanan completed her bachelor's degree at the Mozarteum University Salzburg in the class of William Coleman and has been studying for her master's degree at the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich with Hariolf Schlichtig and Roland Glassl since 2022.
Yanan gained solo experience during her bachelor's studies, performing Mozart's Clarinet Concerto KV 622 in a version for viola and orchestra with the Salzburg University Orchestra, among other works.
In May 2022, she was awarded second prize at the Paul Hindemith Concorso Viola Competition in Salzburg and also received a special prize from the principal conductor of the Baden-Baden Philharmonic Orchestra.
She received further artistic inspiration from masterclasses with Nobuko Imai, Thomas Riebl, Lars Anders Tomter, Garth Knox, Antoine Tamestit, and Lawrence Power.
Yanan is a scholarship holder of the International Music Academy Liechtenstein and Yehudi Menuhin - Live Music Now Munich. Since 2023, she has also been a member of the Mendelssohn Orchestra Academy of the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, where she is deepening her orchestral experience at the highest level.
In September 2025, the young violist will begin her trial period as deputy principal violist with the Munich Radio Orchestra.
